SynopsisMariano Bonifazi (Ugo Tognazzi) is an honest but inflexible Italian left-wing judge. While investigating the murder of a young woman under strange circumstances, he begins to suspect that a famous businessman named Lorenzo Santenocito (Vittorio Gassman) is linked to the crime. Lorenzo, an unprejudiced, multi-millionaire and prevaricator, is a rake with a fascist past. The official firmly believes that he has maintained relations with the dead woman, so he directs his investigation to destroy the alibi that the industrialist has put together.
