Play: KeLÜ. Two astronomers, two epochs, the same sky.
KelüTwo Astronomers, Two Epochs, One Sky, is a play about astronomy and gender in science. The action takes place in an encounter out of time, between two famous astronomers; the Chilean María Teresa Ruiz and the English Cecilia Payne Gaposhkin, both at the beginning of their careers.
It is 1997, a starry night in the Atacama Desert next to La Silla Observatory. Ruiz has just discovered a brown dwarf, a celestial body that no one had ever seen before. Payne, without understanding how, appears in front of Ruiz on this particular night, since she was in 1925, traveling on a ship from Massachusetts to London, after having delivered her thesis on the composition of the stars at Harvard.
