Heritage Month in Viña del Mar: Get to know the Free Activities

The Municipality of Viña del Mar has been preparing and managing activities for the entire community, as part of the celebration of Heritage Month, with more than 50 free events including exhibitions, concerts, lectures, films, contests and tours of historic sites in the city.

Thus, from May 19 to 22, the exhibition of the Cultural Association of Artisans of Viña del Mar, ACUAVIMl, will be held at the main entrance of Quinta Vergara Park, from 10:00 to 17:00 hours. This association will also be present on Sunday 29 with the exhibition and workshop/course "Selknam culture, masks, weapons and utensils".

On Sunday, May 22, between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm, the exhibition "Festival de la Canción de Viña del Mar, patrimonio comunal" will be presented at the amphitheater of the Quinta Vergara, which brings together videos and historical photographs of the event. There will also be tours inside the amphitheater and an exhibition by collector Gabriel Figueroa, with objects allusive to the event and vinyls of artists of the time.

On Wednesday, May 25, at 6:00 p.m., at the Museo Palacio Rioja, the topic "Natural Heritage in Viña del Mar" will be discussed as part of the Cultural Dialogues, with the aim of learning about and highlighting the Natural Heritage of the commune.

On Saturday, May 28, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, at the Carlos Hermosilla Library (Calle Simón Bolívar Nº 600) in Forestal Bajo, the Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna Municipal Library will "bring its work closer" to the community with the presentation of the Travelling Suitcase and the exhibition of heritage photographs of the sector.

SUNDAY, MAY 29: HERITAGE DAY IN VIÑA

"Recognizing our native forests" is the activity that the Artequin Viña del Mar Museum and Forestal Nativo will offer to the community on the same Heritage Day, which includes a guided tour through the ecosystems present in the forest near the museum located in Potrerillo Park, where through the Frottage technique, participants can develop "Textures of the sclerophyll" to learn to differentiate leaves. At the Rioja Palace, children from 6 years of age will be able to participate in the workshop "I learn and play in the gardens" at 12:30 pm and 4:00 pm and then have fun with the game "Arma la Palabra" (Put the word together).

At the Presidential Palace of Cerro Castillo (Callao Nº 398), between 10:00 and 17:00 hours, visitors will be able to visit the summer residence that was built in 1930 for the heads of state. While the visits are being made, at 2:00 p.m., in front of the palace, there will be a performance of "Four Variations of Repertoire" by students of the Classical Ballet Department of the Izidor Handler Municipal Conservatory, and at 3:00 p.m., the folkloric group BAFOVI with the "Dance Walk through Traditional Chilean Culture".

The Valparaíso Sporting Club (Los Castaños Nº 404), from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm invites you to experience the heritage route: "Sporting Historic Circuit", where visitors can learn about the oldest racetrack in Latin America.

The Fonck Museum (4 Norte No. 784), meanwhile, will offer a free tour from 10:00 to 17:00 hours, in addition to a scientific illustration workshop for children (ages 8 to 15) at 10:30 hours. A puppet show will also be presented at 12:30 pm. Registration forms can be found at @museofonck

Heritage Routes

The Department of Tourism of the Municipality of Viña del Mar will offer the Heritage Routes "Connect with Viña", an activity to discover the history, culture and heritage of the city of Viña del Mar, through guided walks through emblematic and representative sectors. Two traditional routes will be maintained: Cerro Castillo Route and Foundational Route, taking advantage of the occasion to launch two new ones.

The new routes are "Agua Santa" which will have two schedules: 11:00 and 15:00 hrs., being the meeting point Alvarez street corner Agua Santa, and consists of a tour of the heritage buildings of the late nineteenth century and know the legacy of the writer María Luisa Bombal viñamarina. At the Palacio Vergara Museum, located inside the Quinta Vergara Park, there will be guided tours from 10:00 to 17:00 hours to learn about its temporary and permanent exhibits. Visitors will also be able to enjoy musical performances by violinist Pedro Tapia from 12:00 to 13:00 hours and singer María Cristina Poblete, who will perform from 15:00 to 16:00 hours, both in the Salón Dorado.

The Corporación de Adelanto y Desarrollo de Reñaca O.C.F. invites you to a tour of the auditorium, library and the mural made by great Chilean artists in the mosaic technique of the Facultad de Ciencias del Mar y Recursos Naturales from 10:00 to 16:30 hours at Av. Borgoño Nº 16344.

Finally, Esteban Araya, from Fipancu Foundation, will present the educational points about the Reñaca Wetland, in an activity to be held between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. There will also be two guided tours (with limited spaces): "Birds of the Wetland" with Rodrigo Reyes of BIRDWATCHING, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, and "Wetland Estero Reñaca, from the sea to the park", from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. All guided tours will have as a meeting point the Plaza de las Estatuas, located on Avenida Balmaceda, between Borgoño and Ignacio Carrera Pinto streets.
